An embroidery sewing machine is a powerful tool for a craftsperson. Having a separate machine for embroidery allows you to make stitched designs without the need to wrestle with a standard sewing machine or handsew each stitch. The Janome Memory Craft 300e is equipped with preinstalled designs. You also can download premade designs online or create your own. Installing these designs is closely related to moving files on your computer.
Format your memory card, also called a SD flash card, by inserting it into the sewing machine. Select an ATA PC card or a Compact Flash with Type II Adapter. Push the card into the slot in the right side of the sewing machine. The machine will format the card automatically, if it is not already formatted. The card is now ready to use for designs.
Janome 350E is a machine designed for serious professionals. It is an embroidery only machine. It comes with 100 built-in embroidery designs, 3 fonts and 2 & 3 letter monogramming. The machine comes with two hoop sizes. The standard 5' x 4.3' and the large 5.5' x 7.9'. The 5' x 7' hoop is more important for a professional. Save your design as a JEF file, which is the only file type the Janome 300e can read. To save an image in this format, use a program that can convert files. Search online or contact the sewing machine retailer, if you do not have a program already. To change the file format, open the image of your design in the program. Follow the program's instructions for saving the design as a .jef file. This process usually is completed through the 'Save As' option under the word 'File' from the top left of the program.
Transfer the .jef file to the Embf5 directory on the memory card. If your computer does not have a place to insert your memory card, use an external driver that you can plug in to it. Once the memory card is connected to your computer and you can access it, transfer designs by copying them into the folder labeled 'Embf5.' This location is the only place the sewing machine looks for designs. Copy the designs into this folder on the memory card.
Insert the memory card in the sewing machine and select the image. The Janome 300e will read the Embf5 directory and display your designs. Select the image you want to work with on the machine's LCD screen and begin sewing.
Tip
If your image does not show up after these steps, check the size of the design. The maximum size the 300e can sew in is 5.5-by-7.9 inches. Anything larger will not show up on the machine's screen.
During installation of some embroidery software, the installer will ask you to plug in your dongle. Normally the installer sees the dongle and continues installation, but I’ve seen many times when the dongle isn’t verified, and installation cannot proceed. There is an answer. I can’t say that I can solve everyone’s problem, but if you own Janome or Bernina embroidery software, I just might have the answer you are looking for.
The Device Driver
The answer to your installation woes is that your computer doesn’t know what the dongle is. Especially if you are installing the embroidery software on a computer that is newer than that of the embroidery software’s system requirements, the information the computer needs to use the dongle just isn’t available.
That information, or hardware instruction, is called a “driver”. The dongle is known as a “device”. If your embroidery software installation stops at dongle verification, you will need a “device driver” that allows your computer to operate your dongle.
Bernina and Janome dongles, as far as I know, are all technically a USB “HASP key”. So we just need to get the proper HASP key drivers from the SafeNet website, and we’ll be good (provided that we correctly install the driver and it’s the right one).
A quick search on Google for “HASP driver” led me to this page. The page offers various downloads, but the one we want is called Sentinel HASP/LDK – Windows GUI Run-time Installer. After accepting a rather lengthy user license agreement, I downloaded a file named Sentinel_LDK_Run-time_setup.zip.
Installation of Driver
The HASP driver is extremely easy to install. First you should close any embroidery software installer that you have running. Ideally you would have all programs closed, and some may even suggest disabling your anti-virus. Next, you’ll want to unzip (extract) the contents of the downloaded zip, and locate a file named HASPUserSetup.exe. This executable file can be run just by double clicking on it. Double click on it, and then follow the instructions. When you’re done, you should have the appropriate HASP driver installed. Your computer may not immediately be able to use the driver, so restart your computer, then try to install your embroidery software. If the red light comes on when you plug in your dongle, that’s an indication that the driver is working.
